Comment

A well-organised essay which covers both comic and serious aspects of both works and purposes to which they are put. It offers a clear line of argument, keeping the question in mind throughout. A clear grasp of context is provided and both Ibsen’s own viewpoint and that of another modern critic are woven into the argument.

For a Very High Level

  • Include more detailed analysis of the nature of humour and tragedy. (AO4)
  • Offer some closer textual analysis to back up some of the points on character. (AO1)
  • Interrogate a critic’s view in more detail. (AO5)
