Comment
AO1: Expression, though sometimes lacking fluency, is mostly clear. The material covered is relevant, but there is a tendency towards narrative description of events, and the relevance of these to the question is not always made sufficiently clear. Signposting needs to be firmer and more formal. A topic sentence for each paragraph would give a greater sense of direction.
AO2: There is a sustained response to the magical elements of the play, with due attention paid to their thematic significance and dramatic development. Knowledge of structure and dramatic effect is good, but the points made are not regularly supported by quotation and analysis. The comments on language are mostly implicit and there is no detailed textual commentary.
AO3: There is some consideration of alternative interpretations of Bottom's transformation and some awareness that the play can be staged in more than one way. Both points could be developed in more detail.
AO4: Contextual references are brief but effective.
For a B grade
- Tighter focus on the argument, less retelling of the story.
- More detailed, evaluative accounts of examples, including dramatic effects and language.
- Different interpretations developed in more depth.
