Comment

This is a clear and fairly confident response demonstrating a good understanding of the character’s nature and development, and of the novel’s context. Language devices and narrative techniques have been highlighted, with some exploration of language to emphasise effects, though there could be more. Quotations are relevant and fluently embedded in sentences.

For a High Level:

  • Give more analysis of Syal's use of language, especially imagery, and narrative devices.
  • Extend the range of vocabulary, and look for more sophisticated words to express ideas.
  • Aim for more consistent fluency.
  • Give more thought to an effective introduction and conclusion.
