Comment

The essay makes some very thoughtful points about themes, particularly in the final section, where detailed references and knowledge of the text support points. However, there is no clear argument laid out early on, making the essay disjointed in places.

For Grades 8–9

  • Use the introduction to present a clear argument and give direction to the points that follow.
  • Make sure that developing points are clearly linked to the main argument: taking some time to plan will give the essay a more convincing shape.
  • Ensure that context is always linked clearly to the task.
