Comment

The essay raises some points that are relevant to the question, but shows a fairly basic understanding of the relationship between Lanyon and Jekyll/Hyde. The student tends to tell the story and drift away from the question. There is some use of quotation to support points, but there needs to be more detailed examination of language and its effects. There is no reference to context or the theme of science that lies at the heart of the relationship between Lanyon and Jekyll.

For Grade 6

  • Have a clear structure which answers the question through a logical sequence of points.
  • Write in a more formal style.
  • Make sure you understand the sequence of episodes in the plot.
  • Include some mention of science, which is an important link between Lanyon and Jekyll/Hyde.
  • Look more closely at the effects of the language Stevenson uses, with more quotations.
