Comment

The answer shows some focus on the question with some relevant comments about St John Rivers and Jane’s attitude towards religion. The main points are supported with relevant evidence from the extract and there is an attempt to write about how language has been used and to demonstrate some contextual knowledge. Concentrate on ideas and not on retelling the story.

For Grade 4

  • Focus clearly on the ideas outlined in the task and avoid repeating ideas.
  • Make sure that any description of character or plot is linked clearly to ideas.
  • Strengthen the comments on language to show how ideas have been presented.
