Comment

This is quite a developed response in terms of the extract, although it has a tendency to slip into description in some places when referring to the novel as a whole. The focus on effects of language use are well developed overall and closely linked to the writer’s purpose and meanings. There is some effective use of embedded evidence to support points. The style is appropriate to this type of essay.

For Grade 7

  • More analysis of effects of particular word choices
  • Focus on deeper meanings
  • More developed analytical language
