Macbeth (Grades 9–1)
The manipulative wife of Macbeth who, entranced by the witches’ prophecy, sets her mind on becoming queen. Guilt drives her to madness and suicide.
Macbeth’s one-time friend who is later murdered to quash his chances of succession to the throne. His ghost appears to Macbeth at a feast.
An honourable and kindly king who shows his respect for Macbeth by making him Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth stabs him while he sleeps.
Three ‘Weird Sisters’ (I.3.31) or ‘midnight hags’ (IV.1.47) who appear throughout the play bringing prophecies of kingship to Macbeth and Banquo.
