Comment

This is a logically organised and generally fluent exploration of the theme. Quotations are well chosen and generally the analysis is sound and thoughtful. Occasionally, ideas could be further developed – for example, the notion of Macbeth’s emotional conflict is only touched on briefly.

For Grades 8–9

Try to link ideas and paragraphs even more fluently.
Develop interpretations more fully.
Expand on, and analyse, the effect of language in more detail.
Consider other perspectives – for example, the effect of conflict on Scotland as a ‘sick’ kingdom.
