Comment

This is a logically organised and generally fluent exploration of the theme. Quotations are well chosen and generally the analysis is sound and thoughtful. Occasionally, ideas could be further developed – for example, the notion of Macbeth’s emotional conflict is only touched on briefly.

For Grades 8–9

  • Try to link ideas and paragraphs even more fluently.
  • Develop interpretations more fully.
  • Expand on, and analyse, the effect of language in more detail.
  • Consider other perspectives – for example, the effect of conflict on Scotland as a ‘sick’ kingdom.
