Son of the Montague family. He is a passionate, romantic young man who often acts rashly, but when he falls in love with Juliet he shows loyalty and devotion.

Daughter of the Capulet family. She is an intelligent teenage girl who is willing to defy her parents’ wishes in order to stay true to Romeo.

A mother figure and nurse to Juliet and shares her secrets. She adds an element of comedy to the play by talking too much and by referring to sexual aspects of love.

An apparently wise holy man whose plans to help Romeo and Juliet by secretly plotting with them may call his integrity into question.

Juliet’s cousin who seems to enjoy conflict and is quick to fuel it by starting fights and throwing insults at his enemies.
